What's The Big Deal About Spam?

Now an ISP is suing Kraft Foods over some email spamming. Look spam is annoying, but so is junk mail. Why are there lawsuits over spam and not over junk mail? Simple, the government controls the postal system, and you pay for the postage, but email goes through privately held channels for free. Thus spam uses up lots and lots of people's bandwidth without compensation.

As a business owner, I understand how annoying, and costly this can be. But I am really sick and tired of Bill Gates, et. al. telling me that spam is this enormous problem. The average consumer can just get a spam filter and the annoyance is removed. It's their problem, not mine.

Bill, you want my help, you gotta pay me for it, don't go creating a false fear.
