It's No Substitute
The NYTimes is trying to pitch podcasting as a substitute for church.
This I do know, scripture does not command us "listen to the podcast," but it does tell us to "not give up meeting together." But then, I doubt the NYTimes knows the difference between real religious conviction and the simple consideration of ideas either.
Just as Christian organizations embraced radio and television, podcasting has quickly caught on with religious groups. Since the beginning of July, the number of people or groups offering spiritual and religious podcasts listed on Podcast Alley (podcastalley.com) has grown to 474 from 177.I was completely unaware that Christianity had "embraced" radio and television. In fact there are some that might argue that radio and television ministries are not even legitimate Christian ministry.
