China Changing
The first time I ever worked overseas it was in the People's Republic of China. It was early in thier process of allowing "Economic Development Zones," small areas of capitalism, but even in those early days, 1989, one thing seemed clear -- The government didn't quite comprehend the forces they had loosed. The prosperity only possible with capitalism has a way of tearing down the controls of even the most iron fisted regime.

Hukou is the Chinese system of registration that ties an individual to the location they are from and has been used by communist parties to restrict travel within a country along with tracking employment and providing health benefits. However, with the massive migration from rural areas to urban cities in China, the Hukou system broke down.People want what capitalism offers and they will chase it, regardless. My only hope is that the collapse of Chinese communism can be as non-violent as it was in the SOviet Union.
