Politcal Correctness Rewrites History - Again!
As if assassination wasn't bad enough, now Thomas Becket has to cope with character assassination.I am not delusional enough to think Becket a great holy man -- His battles with the King were more about establishing a power base than preserving the faith, but that power base mattered and matters a lot to the church.
The murdered medieval archbishop has been voted the second worst Briton in the past thousand years, in a readers' poll carried out by BBC History Magazine.
Sometimes, less than honorable people do good things for less than honorable reasons. I am just happy for the result.
