Now It Gets Serious...

This week, using a number one seed home court advantage gained by an outstanding record, my beloved Butler Bulldogs set out to win their conference championship on the road to yet another NCAA tournament appearance. Ranked as high as #8 this season, the Bulldogs are probably looking at a #4 seed in the Big Dance regardless, but a conference championship brings momentum and pride to the show, something a mid-major like the 'Dogs really need.

A lot of poeple are not fans of college basketball, but most know the movie "Hoosiers." Look closely at the picture of Hinkle Fieldhouse below. It is where the climactic game of that film was made, AND it is where the real Bobby Plump took the real shot for tiny Milan on which the movie was based. Butler basketball is the stuff of legends.

In recent years, my personal legends with Butler basketball have become melancholy. Three years ago, the man with whom I attended Butler as an undergrad died in a car accident. We talked BU ball at least once a week. Last year, my father, with whom I discussed BU ball almost daily was similarly killed in a car accident. Without these men to share the thrill of victory with; the victories are, for me, much less thrilling.

Regardless, a Butler trip to the Elite Eight, something quite possible this year, would add another legend to an already legendary program.

GO DAWGS!
