“A man who is eating or lying with his wife or preparing to go to sleep in humility, thankfulness, and temperance, is, by Christian standards, in an infinitely higher state than one who is listening to Bach or reading Plato in a state of pride.”What about listening to Bach with humility?
—C.S Lewis, Letter to Bede Griffiths (April 16, 1940)
Wisecrack aside - one must ask in light of that quote why church size matters, why quality of music matters, why XXXX matters. But more importantly, we must ask why we spend so much time in the church on those things and so little time on fostering "humility, thankfulness and temperance."
