Warnie Winners Unite!
Former local boy Brad Hightower of 21st Century Reformation, who I met over this past weekend, did a piece this past weekend on evangelism. Milt at Transforming Sermons decided he liked Brad's post and posted a big Amen. Given that Brad, Milt, and I are all Warnie Winners who am I to not join the chorus?
I especially love this point that Brad makes:
I especially love this point that Brad makes:
As Christians, we are first and foremost a people with whom God dwells. We are a people of His presence. As individuals, trust and faith in the power and love of God is expressed in prayer. Community life in His presence is lived out by praying for one another and speaking the word of God from the presence of God. I believe this emphasis describes well the missing link that separates our story in the 21st century from the story of the early church. So often, we seek to know God through many methods other than the one thing needful which is direct personal knowledge.Yet Warnie bestower Adrian Warnock seems to think that somehow this direct personal knowledge can be communicated through preaching. Adrain keeps teasing how he is going to do that
The mystery is that he has determined that the spoken word of God would have the primary place in being the tool by which genuine transformation can occur. What is it about preaching that does this, how can we do it more? What sort of preaching works to transform the mind and make possible the transformation of the heart itself?I remain skeptical that Adrian will accomplish the task he has set for himself, but am most anxious to see him try.
